Cranberry Grape Sauce

This easy cranberry grape sauce is a fun twist of the classic! Grapes add a great chunky texture and also balances out the sweetness and acidity from the cranberries.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cranberries fresh or frozen
  • 2 cups red grapes whole
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice from about 2-3 oranges, plus more as needed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients in a small 3-quart saucepan. Stir to combine.
  • Bring to a boil. Then, reduce to a simmer over medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened to taste. The cranberries will burst and pop, and the grapes will soften. If it's thickening too much, add more orange juice as needed. The longer it simmers, the thicker it will get. Also, it will continue to thicken as it cools down.
  • If desired, press with a spoon or masher to break down any chunks until desired consistency. Serve warm or cold. Enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe makes about 2.5 cups.
  • Both frozen or fresh cranberries and grapes will work - the sauce may just need a few extra minutes. I prefer to use fresh.
  • Use low or medium-low heat to simmer. This will prevent the cranberries from popping too hard and cause a mess in the kitchen.
  • Serve warm cold? Either way works! Some people I know like it cold, so I refrigerate a batch for a few hours until ready to serve.

Substitutions and variations:
  • Fresh orange juice: Bottled will work in a pinch.
  • Add-ins: For extra flavors, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg. You can also throw in a small sprig of rosemary to infuse the with aromatic tones.
