Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef chuck (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground fresh black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Havarti or Swiss cheese
  • Teriyaki sauce (store-bought, I used Soy Vay Island Teriyaki)
  • Vegetable oil
  • 4 brioche or sesame seed burger buns

Toppings

  • Pineapple slices
  • Onions, cut into rings
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Teriyaki sauce (store-bought, I used Soy Vay Island Teriyaki)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Kosher salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Using your hands, mix until combined but do not overwork the meat to avoid tough burgers. Let sit for 10 minutes at room temperature.
  • Form seasoned beef into 4 patties, each one a bit bigger than the size of the burger buns. They should be about 3/4 inch thick.
  • Heat a grill to medium high. For medium burgers (doneness), grill about 3 minutes on one side. Brush burgers with teriyaki sauce. Flip and grill for another 4 minutes. Top with cheese, cover and cook for 1 minute. Find other cook times per desired level of doneness in the blog section above.
  • Grill pineapple slices and onions, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Build the burgers. I like it in this order: burger bun, lettuce, burger patties, tomato, pineapple, onions, teriyaki sauce, burger bun.
